EMODnet Physics – RVFL_001 - The page presents the sea surface currents field are recorded by High Frequency Radars. HFR is a unique technology mapping the speed and direction of ocean surface currents in near real time (along with other variables) over wide areas with high spatial and temporal resolution. Currents in the ocean are equivalent to winds in the atmosphere because they move things from one location to another. These currents carry nutrients as well pollutants, so it is important to know the currents for ecological and economic reasons. The page integrates the European HFR node product (see also

) with international sources of HFR data (Global HFR network).
